Herbal Medicine and Nutrition
Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine is one of the most widely used Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment modality. TCM relies on herbal therapies both for the treatment of illness and in the optimization of health and prevention of disease. Herbal medicine is the administration of herbs in specific doses. Based on a patient’s unique symptoms and presentation, a combination of herbs is selected to treat the symptoms, achieve better balance in the body, and prevent the onset of symptoms in the future. Herbal formulas are most commonly administered in pills, powders, tinctures, or as dried herbs that are prepared as boiled tea called a decoction. However, at Peaceful Warrior Acupuncture we mostly prescribe herbal formulas in pill form, in order to accomodate our patient's "on the go " lifestyle. Our herbs are pure and natural and FDA compliant. Chinese
herbal medicine is part of a holistic approach that works best when combined with acupuncture. An herbal consult can be a stand alone treatment or included in your acupuncture appointment. Consultations can also be done via video conference for those who are not feeling well, could be contagious or for those who are not local. Nutrition
Like herbal medicine, diet is another foundational aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Here, we explore the
integration of nutrition, with the understanding of how certain foods, and food preparation affect the body’s systems. The main goal of Eastern Nutrition is to use food as means to achieve balance and harmony within the body. Compared to a more Western approach, it has unique beneficial concepts, such as diet suggestions based on syndrome differentiation. During a consultation, we assess each patient individually in order to determine which nutritional recommendations may work best based on both their constitution and current complaint and modify those suggestions appropriately.
