About Melissa Nolan L.Ac.
Melissa Nolan L.Ac. is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist in California and the owner and founder of Peaceful Warrior Acupuncture. She is deeply passionate about treating her patients based on their individual needs. She uses the traditional practices of acupuncture, cupping, and herbal medicine—as well as nutritional supplementation and lifestyle, coaching to help her patients feel like the best version of themselves—physically, mentally, and spiritually. Melissa's clinical interests are in women's health, pain management, emotional and mental health. Her ability to seamlessly blend Kiiko Matsumoto style Japanese Acupuncture, orthopedic acupuncture, and Traditional Chinese Medicine makes her skillset diverse and dynamic.
Melissa received a Master of Science degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine (MSTOM) from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM), which included 4800 hours of clinical and didactical hours in Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, and Western medicine. Melissa completed a clinical externship at the Downtown Senior Clinic at First Lutheran Church. Melissa also completed a semester of clinical training at a teaching hospital in Beijing, China. In Beijing, she completed clinical rotations in the Gynecology, Pain Management, Orthopedic, and Neurology departments.
Outside of the clinic, Melissa enjoys relaxing with her husband and four dogs, being in nature, traveling to new places, as well as kicking butt in martial arts. Melissa's martial arts training began with Muay Thai a decade ago, which catalyzed her Eastern Medicine journey. Through Muay Thai, Melissa found new inner strength and desire to lead a less toxic lifestyle. Melissa's teachers had a profound influence on her, not only for their superior skill but also by demonstrating how to lead a healthy life through disciplined training. Melissa became infatuated with training and competing, which compelled her to balance and strengthen the Mind, Body, and Spirit.
Above all, Melissa realized that spreading a sense of positivity and peace is the ultimate form of healing, both for the patient and practitioner. Through personal experience, she has learned that it takes time and hard work to feel that sense of peace truly, and now it gives her great satisfaction to lead others on their path to attaining it.

About Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive medical system over 5,000 years old that aims to treat the entire person, not only individual symptoms, in order to promote, restore and maintain overall health, healing, and balance. TCM employs the elements of nature to explain how all bodily functions interrelate and this holistic approach integrates many modalities.
Chinese Medical Therapies Include:
Acupuncture
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Cupping
Gua Sha
Moxibustion
Traditional Chinese Dietary Therapy
Bodywork & Massage
Lifestyle counseling.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture helps to treat and prevent illness by improving the overall functioning of the body’s immune and organ systems. Acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of very fine needles at specific points on the body to restore proper functioning of the nervous, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, musculoskeletal and endocrine systems. Acupuncture is an effective treatment for a wide variety of common conditions and is also an excellent form of preventative medicine.
Moxibustion
Moxa is a form of herbal heat therapy. The process is the application of heat at certain acupuncture points to stimulate the flow of Qi & Blood and warm the channels of the body. Moxa cones and sticks are made of the herb Artemisia Vulgaris which burns with intense heat and are used to stimulate and harmonize digestion, increase blood flow, ease painful joints, and remove stasis and alleviate pain.
Cupping
Cupping is the application of cups that create a vacuum seal over specific areas of the body. Cupping is used to break up stagnation and promote the free flow of Qi & Blood in the channels which helps relieve pain in the low back, shoulders, legs and abdomen. It is also often used for pain syndromes or patients who have chronic lung conditions such as asthma, allergies and/or cough, and gastro-intestinal disorders.
Herbal Medicine
herbs are prescribed to address your specific diagnosis. Chinese herbs work to bring the body’s systems back into balance so the body can heal itself naturally. Chinese medicine has a pharmacy of over 500 herbs. Chinese Herbs are usually given as a formula of five to fifteen different herbs.
