Gua Sha
Another Traditional Chinese healing modality is gua sha. Gua Sha or "scraping" is applied by gently scraping the oiled surface of the skin with a dull tool, this is usually done over areas of local congestion. This anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative technique is effective in relieving many acute and chronic conditions. Many common ailments such as headaches, migraines, neck, shoulder, back and knee pain are relieved with this technique. Following your gua sha session you may have areas on the skin that appear red. These marks are normal and called "sha". Sha is different from bruising, and disappears often within 48 hours. Gua sha can also be applied more gently in a more massage-like matter during a facial rejuvenation treatment This is oftern done with a rose quartz or jade tool. who have medical conditions affecting the skin or veins
who bleed easily
who take medication to thin their blood
who have deep vein thrombosis
who have an infection, tumor, or wound that has not healed fully
who have an implant, such as a pacemaker or internal defibrillaton
